I realized that the last journal I had was way back in 2018. And quite honestly I've gone beyond coffee painting but I haven't posted some of them here yet. I've also joined exhibits, done commissions and started a YouTube channel.

I haven't been active on DeviantArt lately which is a shame because even if DeviantArt isn't as a hot topic like Instagram or YouTube, this is where it all started for me to take art seriously. I mean I've been drawing all my life but I've never embraced being an artist. At the most, I call myself a hobbyist.


Lately I've been enjoying doing digital art. I had to buy a WACOM Intuos tablet for work purposes but since I'm locked up at home because of quarantine guidelines, I have also tried to play and did some doodles on my tablet. I'd be posting some of my work here soon.


I'm still into coffee painting. It's just that I'm staying at my parent's apartment and digital art is less messy. It's quite fun really and I find myself doing art work faster than doing a traditional one. I mean it still takes me days but at least I haven't gone as far as months or even years.


I've noticed there's been lots of changes here in DA, took me a while to navigate my account just to write this journal. But I guess that's what happens when you haven't been here for long. I'm no longer holding a core account (I also noticed) and since my credit card had expired and there's no way for me to update mine because, well, quarantine (my cc is based in China and I'm stuck in the Philippines), I don't think I'd be getting any core membership soon. Not unless I get to find a way to pay money online using my physical money which is impossible.


Okay, I'm just flapping me gums and talking nonsense. It's been a while. Good day to y'all! :)

on pricing commissions

it's so difficult to put a price on your work. I know I seldom take commissions (actually I don't want to because of the time it consumes). For now, I treat it as a hobby. But when I am asked, it's difficult to gauge how much the customer is willing to buy my work. One time, I put a price on one which I thought was reasonable and realized it was too low. Fortunately, it was a friend and told me she'd double the price. That is good. But when  I applied the same principle to a couple of guys who had expressed their interest in commissioning me, they backed off. 

I might need to take commissions more seriously and as soon as possible because my office job is not doing its part and I can't leave just yet until I have all my required documents done. I know. I have a lot of issues.

Notes on Coffee Painting

It's interesting that I still find recent views on my coffee painting. Some of them I find quite outdated. Some I have already forgotten or perhaps wasn't really as essential compared to the ones I later developed. I think I may need to update. And I am still working on my book. The content is there, but I need a lot of paintings to back it up and sadly I have none other than the ones posted here and it's not enough. Which reminds me, I need to go back to coffee painting too. I have one piece lined up that's been sitting for a year now (outline completed but not even one stroke of coffee). I also have other ones I really wanted to paint. But perhaps when I have enough time.
